The majority of people with chronic dry eye suffer from Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), sometimes called Evaporative Dry Eye. The good news is that it’s very common and treatable. Lieblong Eye Clinic was the first in the state of Arkansas to receive the new Lipiflow Treatment System, that can bring you the comfort and relief you desire.
Glaucoma is an eye disease in which fluid builds up causing excess pressure that damages the optic nerve. More than 3 million Americans are affected by glaucoma, and it is a top cause of blindness for people. The most common type, called open angle glaucoma, can cause irreversible damage to vision without any prior symptoms
By the age of 80, over half of people in the U.S. have developed cataracts at some point. The condition is characterized by the clouding of the eye’s lens. This lens allows the eye to focus on an object, so when it becomes obstructed, light cannot pass through the lens properly, which results in blurred vision.
Macular degeneration is a very serious eye condition, and one of the leading causes of blindness and vision impairment. This disease usually occurs in people over the age of 50 but can begin to develop as young as 40. The eye condition typically manifests with only mild symptoms, such as slight blurriness or vision distortion, and progressively gets worse. Risk factors for macular degeneration can include genetic disposition, age, increased blood pressure, obesity, smoking, and high cholesterol. Prevention steps and regular eye exams can go a long way toward keeping the devastating effects of macular degeneration at bay.
In diabetic retinopathy the blood vessels of the retina become abnormal and develop tiny leaks, causing fluid or blood to seep into the retina, especially the macula. When fluid accumulates in the macula, it becomes wet and swollen and cannot work properly. This is called macular edema, which causes the central vision to become blurry. The form of diabetic retinopathy caused by leakage of retinal blood vessels is called non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR).
